HSW T-28 Takes Flight

On Saturday, March 16th, the Wing’s T-28A (646) restoration project returned to the skies for the first time in several years.  The test flight was conducted by Col. Bob Keating at the controls.  Mark Haskin flew T-28 643 as chase and observer aircraft.  The flight was about 40 minutes with Bob reporting a few squawks, but the flight was a tremendous success.  Congratulations to all the hard working folks who have shed blood, sweat, and tears to get 646 back in the air.  Test flights will hopefully continue in short order.  Thank you to everyone who came out and supported this momentus occasion.

Update:  A 5:45 minute video of the flight is now available. 646 First Flight (requires Quicktime player)

T-28 GREAT NEWS!!!

The long awaited day has arrived!

After 3 plus years of restoration… The T-28 is returning to the skies!! The plan is for the Trojan to take flight between 9 & 10 a.m. this Saturday, March 16. Come out, one and all, to help cheer her onto the taxiway. Upon her return, we will celebrate with a fajita VICTORY Lunch at 11:30 in the High Sky Wing Ready Room and give a pat on the back for all of the hard work of those involved! It’s going to be a great day!

Be sure and check later for pictures and video.

Riders4Fighters Report

On Friday, March 8, about 40 people turned out to honor wounded veterans who were participating in Reel Thanx, an organization that provides wounded veterans an opportunity to relax by joining in a fishing weekend at Lake Amistad.  Unfortunately, due to short notice, the HSW was not well represented.  We hope that for the next event (3-4 times per year) we will have a bigger window to work with and more members can participate.
