PRESS RELEASE \u2014 The\u00a0F-14 Tomcat \u201cFast Eagle 102\u201d\u00a0is the sole surviving aircraft from the air-to-air battle and<\/span>\u00a0shoot down of two Libyan Su-22 Fitter aircraft<\/a>\u00a0on\u00a0August 19, 1981.<\/span><\/p>\n While on deployment with the USS Nimitz battle group off the Libyan coast, two VF-41 Black Aces F-14A Tomcats\u00a0encountered two Libyan SU-22 \u201cFitters\u201d while on a routine combat patrol over the Gulf of Sidra.<\/span><\/p>\n <\/a><\/p>\n
